Detailed itinerary 14 Days Rwenzori Mountains, Gorilla Trekking & Uganda Wildlife Adventure
Day 1 – Pick Up & Drive to the Rwenzori Mountains
Once you’re picked up from Entebbe or Kampala, you’ll head west toward the legendary Rwenzori Mountains – the beautiful Mountains of the Moon. The journey takes you through lush countryside, tea plantations, and beautiful crater lakes, with the stunning Rwenzori peaks standing tall on the horizon as you get closer to Nyakalengija, the trekking headquarters. You’ll get to meet your mountain guides and porters for a complete trek briefing and equipment check.
Day 2 – Hike to Sine Camp (2,596m)
The start of the walk goes through the Afro-montane forest zone, following the floor of a valley under tall trees covered in moss and lichen. As you make your way up the steady climb, you can hear birds singing and see blue monkeys and black-and-white colobus monkeys often passing by as they swing through the trees.
The plants are diverse and include big trees, bamboo thickets, flowering shrubs, mushrooms, and vines that hang down. Enock’s Falls is just a short walk from camp. The water flows through the green plants around it.
Sine Camp is set on a narrow ridge overlooking a dramatic waterfall far below, offering a peaceful introduction to the mountains. Sine Camp is 2,596 meters high, and you will sleep there for the night.
Day 3 – Hike to Mutinda Camp (3,588m)
The path gets steeper as you enter the Bamboo–Mimulopsis Zone after you leave Sine Camp. Here, you walk through a thick green tunnel made of tall bamboo. The forest feels like magic, but the trail can be muddy and hard to walk on when it’s wet.
Before you keep going along the hills and valleys, you first go through Kalalama Camp. On your journey, you will cross streams and waterfalls covered in moss while walking beneath very large heather trees. The trail, which goes up and down through hills with a lot of different kinds of plants and fog, is not straight.
In the afternoon, you can climb to Mutinda Lookout (3,975 m) to help your body get used to the altitude. From the lookout, you can see the Rwenzori range, the town of Kasese, and Lake George. You are going to spend the night. 3,588m at Mutinda Camp
Day 4 – Hike to Bugata Camp (4,100m)
Today’s walk goes through the Mutinda Valley, which is known for its giant lobelias, everlasting flowers, and tussock grass. The road is often muddy, so you have to be careful as you step from tussock to tussock.
The Namusangi Valley (3,840 m) is reached by a steep walk. The valley walls are lined with steep waterfalls, and the views of the Mutinda Peaks are amazing. Before reaching Bugata Camp, the valley rises slowly with a series of bumps. You will stay the night. 4,100m Bugata Camp
Day 5 – Hike to Hunwick’s Camp (3,974m) via Bamwanjarra Pass
The path from Bugata Camp goes up to Bamwanjarra Pass, which is 4,450 meters high. When the sky is clear, the pass has great views of Mount Stanley, Mount Baker, and Mount Speke. If the weather gets bad, there is a safety hut at the pass where people can stay safe.
Descending from the pass, the trail skirts bogs filled with moss, giant groundsels, and lobelias. This area is a known habitat of the Malachite Sunbird, often seen feeding on lobelia flowers.
You get to Hunwick’s Camp after some steep climbs. The camp is above a deep valley and has great views of the nearby mountain peaks. You will spend the night at Hunwick’s Camp, which is 3,974 meters high.
Day 6 – Hike to Margherita Camp (4,485m)
You can get to Lake Kitandara, which is very beautiful and high up in the Rwenzori, from Hunwick’s Camp. The lake is right in front of you when you cross the valley floor. From here, the path goes up very steeply through Scott Elliot Pass and up to Margherita Camp.
The dramatic rock shapes around Margherita Camp make it a good place to stay safe from strong winds. The Duke of Abruzzi camped here on his way up Margherita Peak in 1906. You will stay at Margherita Camp (4,485 m) for the night.
Day 7 – Summit Cheptegei Peak (4,907m) & Return to Hunwick’s Camp
An early alpine start sees you roped up for the ascent toward Cheptegei Peak, following the Stanley Glacier before branching off toward the summit viewpoint.

The final section involves a short, non-technical rock scramble, slowed mainly by altitude. At the summit, panoramic views open across Uganda and Congo, with stunning perspectives of Alexandra Peak, Margherita Peak, Mount Speke, the Bujuku Valley, and surrounding glaciers. After celebrating the summit, you descend back to Hunwick’s Camp. You will spend the night Hunwick’s Camp.
Day 8 – Descend to Kiharo Camp (3,430m)
The start of today’s fall is over the tops and valleys that were formed by glaciers. The trail goes down into a greener area with bogs, mossy rocks, and thick greenery of the mountains.
Kiharo Camp is deep in a valley with steep rocks and lots of plants around it. It is a quiet and beautiful place to rest. You are going to spend the night. Kiharo Camp—3,430 meters
Day 9 – Descend to Base Camp (1,450m)
One of the most beautiful parts of the Rwenzori is the plunge down Nyamwamba Valley. The path goes along the river past steep waterfalls, rocky outcrops covered in moss, and thick forest in the mountains.
Rwenzori red duikers may be quietly eating in forest clearings. After your lunch at Forest View Camp, you go on to the park gate and then to Nyakalengija Base Camp, which is the end of your walk. You will be spending the night at a lodge close to Nyakalengija.
Day 10 – Drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
After having breakfast, you drive southwest toward Bwindi Impenetrable National Park through hilly areas, places where tea is grown, and small towns with people who live in the country. The landscape slowly shifts to hilly terrain with fog and thick forest.
Almost half of the mountain gorillas that are still alive can be found in Bwindi. The next part of the trip’s feature takes place in this area with very old forests. You will be spending the night at a lodge close to Bwindi.
Day 11 – Gorilla Trekking & Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
In the morning, you go to a gorilla trekking briefing with experienced rangers before going into the bush. The hike might take a few hours, but the prize is amazing: you get to spend one magical hour up close as a mountain gorilla family interacts with each other. After lunch, you go to Queen Elizabeth National Park, where you will see beautiful scenery and animal paths.
Day 12 – Game Drive & Kazinga Channel Boat Cruise
You can see elephants, buffaloes, antelopes, warthogs, and cats on a game drive in the morning. The different environments in the park, like savannahs, marshes, and crater lakes, are home to many different animals.
Take a boat tour along the Kazinga Channel in the afternoon. You can see hippos, crocodiles, and a lot of birds at the water’s edge.
Day 13 – Chimpanzee Trekking in Kalinzu & Transfer to Kampala
You drive to Kalinzu Forest Reserve for a guided monkey walk after eating breakfast. The forest has a lot of monkeys and birds, and the walk gives you a close-up view of the jungle.
After the hike, you start the trip back to Kampala, going through the beautiful farmland in the west of Uganda.
Day 14 – Drive to Entebbe / Departure
After breakfast, you’ll head to Entebbe International Airport for your onward flight, wrapping up a wonderful journey through Uganda’s stunning mountains, lush forests, and wildlife-filled savannahs.
