The 5 day trek to Margherita peak of the Rwenzori mountains, then follows the central circuit trail route from the base of Rwenzori mountains to Nyabitaba hut(at 2651m) on day 1 in Rwenzori Mountains National Park. Day 2 proceeds to John Matte hut, through Bujuku hut to Elena hut on day 3. Margherita peak at 5109m is reach on day 4, which combines with an immediate slope to John Matte hut. You will then descend downwards to the foothills of Rwenzori mountains via Nyabitaba hut to Nyakalengija

Detailed Itinerary For 5 Days Climbing Rwenzori
Day 1: Kasese-Nyakalengija to Nyabitaba Hut, 2.651m.
Following your breakfast at the hotel, proceed to Ibanda at Rwenzori Mountaineering services headquarters, for briefing and meeting and porters. The hike then begins with a thirty minutes walk through the Bankonzo plantations and homes, to the forest zone upto the Rwenzori Mountains National Park main gate, where you will start mountaineering for 10 kilometers in 5-6 hours to Nyabitaba hut. Dinner and overnight stay at Nyabitaba Hut.
Day 2: Naybitabah – John Matte
On your day 2 of the 7 days Rwenzori trekking Safari, you will begin climbing to John Matte Hut after you breakfast. this is believed to be the longest trials as it consumes minimum of seven hours on move.it involves passing through the forest for a short time before you cross Kurt Schefer bridge on river Bujuku. From here the trail to Nyamileju Hut is very smooth and clear as it takes few hours although as you go far, the trail becomes more hilly and steeper as your entering higher grounds which is the place common for heather plants. You will stop at Nyamileju Hut for lunch from where you will proceed with the trial through massive heather forest and from the trail along River Bujuka, this will take roughly 3 hours and a distance of 200m to reach John Matte hut.
Dinner and overnight stay at John Matte Hut.
Day 3: From John Matte Hut to Elena Hut (4541m).
After your breakfast, set off from John Matte to Bujuku hut then to Elenah hut. The trail leads down to cross the Bujuku River arriving at the minor Bigo Swamp, home of massive lobelias. You will then cross the swamp to the Higher Bigo swamp before proceeding to Lake Bujuku where sights of the uppermost mountain Stanley in the west are to be viewed. Take a short lunch break at the Bujuku hut, after which you will trek through the groundsel vegetation along the 4km path, heading up 4,372m which is about 5-7 hours hike. You will ascend through the sides of the Upper Bigo bog, and later on follow the hike down through the steep slopes of Lake Bujuku to the West.
From this point you will continue trekking up to the 4372m Scott-Elliot pass, heading towards many swamps and the remarkable ground gully. You will then walk through the steep section above the gully by a metal ladder reaching a junction with two divided trails, with the right trail leading to the Elena Hut, which follows a steep trail above the large boulders to Mount Stanley while the left trail heads to the Scott-Elliot pass descending to Kitandara hut, while the right trail heads to the Elena Hut and on a steep trail above large boulders to Mt Stanley.
Situated at the rocky part of Mount Stanley, Elena hut is located in a cold region, although it offers beautiful views of Mount Baker and Mount Speke, which is sometimes hard to see due to fog. Dinner and an overnight at the Elena hut.
Day 4: Elena Hut – Margherita peak (5109m) and then John maate
Today, you will wake up as early as 2:00am, for breakfast, and embark on your hike to the top of Magheritah peak, which starts at 3:00am. You will hike through the Stanley plateau to Mount Stanley. Using ropes, you will hike through the sharp rocky regions, while the crampons as well as the ice axe will be used on the glacial axe- as directed by the guide. This will take a couple of hours, after which you will reach at the edge of Margherita glacier-the most challenging part of the 7 days Rwenzori trekking Safari. You will then proceed to the top of the peak of Mount Stanley (Magheritah Peak-at 5107m).
At this point, enjoy the impressive views of Lake Ireen, Mount Speke and the surrounding, after then descend Elena hut for lunch. Proceed to John Matte for dinner and an overnight sleep
Day 5: John Matte hut – Back to Nyabitaba Hut and proceed out of the national park
Retrace your route back Nyabitaha hut for lunch, then to Nyakalengija. After breakfast, slope down for about 6-8 hours to Naybitaba for lunch, which is then followed by a trek to the Rwenzori Mountaineering services Office for your certificates that congratulates you upon your success to reach margherita.
