Day 1: Omukorukumi 1700m – Community Camp 2500m (Tent Setup)
Commence the day by convening with your guides and porters at dawn, followed by a 6-hour trek to the community camp situated at 2500m. You traverse expansive farmlands and meadows, navigating through dense elephant grass and residential areas.
This is a 6-kilometer hike, succeeded by dinner and an overnight accommodation at the common campsite.
Day 2: Community Camp at 2500 meters – Rwigo Camp at 3300 meters
This seven-hour trek traverses montane forest regions, where one may encounter fauna including three-horned chameleons, tree squirrels, and monkeys. The expedition from community camp to Rwigo camp is arduous yet rewarding and remarkable.
Evening meal and overnight stay at Rwigo Wilderness Camp.
Day 3: Rwigo Camp to Campeho Camp at 3950 meters
The trail traverses the Bukurungu ridge, offering breathtaking vistas of the gateway peaks, the Hima cement factory, and Mount Gessi. The ascent through the afro-alpine zone on exposed rocks is challenging. The journey from Rwigo to Campeho requires 7 hours.
Day 4: Kambeho Camp to Kinyamiyeya Camp at 4030 meters
To your left, the somber yet stunning gateway peaks greet you in the morning as you admire the heather zones and groundsels that render this walk exceptional. The Kinyamiyeya camp is located six hours distant on foot.
Evening meal and overnight accommodation.
Day 5: Kinyamiyeya Camp to Johnmaate Camp at 3505 meters
This path directs you to John maate camp for dinner and an overnight accommodation by the beaches of the Bukurungu lakes.
Day 6: Johnmaate Camp to Bujuku Camp
Day 7: Bujuku Camp
Bujuku Pass, Irene Lakes, Summit of Margherita Peak, and return to Bujuku Camp.
Day 8: Bujuku Camp to Johnmaate Camp
Proceed from Bujuku Camp to Johnmaate Camp for lunch, then proceed to Nyabitaba Camp for dinner and an overnight stay.
