Detailed Itinerary For the 3 days Nature Walk

Day 1: Nyakalengija 1560m – Omukakiza Camp 2500m

Mahoma loop 3 daysThis days starts with breakfast early in the morning, thereafter proceed to the Rwenzori Mountaineering services head quarters to meet with your experienced Rwenzori guides, cooks, porters as well as attending to the regulations of your trek. Later on begin your trek from the park gate at 1700m, for a measurable distance of 6.5km  to Omukakiza camp, in 4-5 hours gaining an elevation of 1000 meter elevation. Past the gate, the walk through the  montane forest zones, where you can numerous bird types, a three-horned chameleon, black and white colobus monkeys, and Rwenzori turaco birds, all endemic to the forest. It climbs steeply to Omukakiza camp (tent pitch), where you’ll have dinner and spend the night.

Day 2: Omukakiza camp 2500m – Lake Mahoma Camp 3000m

Duration: 5-6 hours

Distance: 6km

In the morning, descend steeply for a couple of hours from Omukakiza, traversing through the bamboo forest, before becoming easier, related to the flat region in the elephant zone. You may gimps Portal peaks and Kinyangoma Hills from Omukakiza. Arrive at the boardwalk via a level area, while the vegetation around comprises of Heather and afro-alpine zones, with many Senecio plants, huge lobelia, and lobelia Liberia. At last, reach Mahoma Lake at 12 feet deep-the deepest in the Rwenzori Mountains National Park,  being fed Mount Baker’s melted snow. At Mahoma Lake Camp, have dinner and take up a goodnight rest in the set up a tent.

Day 3: Lake Mahoma Camp through Nyabitaba Camp to Nyakalengija

Duration: 3 hours

Distance: 8 km

Early in the morning, rise up for breakfast and depart from Lake Mahoma, back to Nyalengija covering a distance of 8km in 3hours. Drop further to the park gate via the Mubuku River and farmland. Proceed to dine and rest overnight at your preferred lodge.
