15 Days Rwenzori Trek, Wildlife and Chimpanzee Tracking Safari

15 Days Rwenzori, Wildlife and Chimpanzee tracking Safari takes you to Murchison Falls National park for a game drive, boat cruise and top of the falls visit. There after you will proceed to Kiable forest National Park for chimpanzee track, then 8 days rwenzori mountains trekking along the central circuit trail.

Full Itinerary For 15 days Rwenzori trek, Wildlife and chimpanzee tracking safari.

Day 1. Arrival and transfer to your hotel.

Upon your arrival, our safari guide will receive you from the Airport and transfer you to the hotel where you’re to spend a night.

Dinner and overnight stay at Cassia lodge (Full board).

Day 2. Transfer to Murchison Falls National Park.

The tour guide shall pick you up from your hotel and transfer to Murchison Falls. Before reaching Masindi, you will stop over at Ziwa Rhino sanctuary for Rhino tracking from where you will stopover in Masindi town for lunch and thereafter continue the journey to the park as you will be received by a number of baboons that normally stay at along the road. Take a ferry and cross to the southern bank of the park from where you’re to spend a night at Paraa.

Dinner and overnight stay at Paraa safari lodge.

Day 3. Game drive and Boat cruise.

After your early morning breakfast, you will set off for a game drive to have wildlife experience .you will spot out a number animals such as lions, giraffe, elephants, large herds of buffalos, Jackson heart beasts and very many others, you will get back to the lodge from where you will have your lunch later drive to the delta at the bottom of the falls to enjoy the boat cruise. Dinner and overnight stay at Paraa Safari Lodge.

Day 4. Visit the top of the falls and transfer to Kibale National Park.

Have your morning breakfast on day 4 of the 15 day Rwenzori trek, wildlife and chimpanzee tracking safari and drive to visit the top of the falls, where you will enjoy the panoramic view of waterfalls, you then continue with the journey and reach Kibale national park late in the evening, check in to the lodge and enjoy the rest of the time at your lodge. Dinner and overnight stay at kibale guest cottages.

Day 5. Chimps tracking and Bigodi swamp walk.

After breakfast you will set for chimpanzee trekking. Kibale Forest National Park is one of the best safari destinations in Africa for chimpanzee tracking. Kibale national park has a number of forest wildlife, most especially 13 species of primate combined with chimpanzees. After trekking you will return back at your hotel for lunch and then transfer   Bigodi wetland for an amazing nature walk. This will encounter you with a lot of flora and fauna. You will get back to the lodge in the evening and have the rest of the night at your hotel.

Day 6. Transfer to Rwenzori Mountains National Park.

Day pack-what to wearEarly in the morning after your breakfast, you will start your journey to kasese in western Uganda to enjoy a rightful Rwenzori mountain climbing. You will reach in Kasese and check in to the lodge/hotel from where you will spend a night as your relaxing for the next day activities. Diner and overnight stay at Margherita hotel.

Day 7: Hike to Nyabitaba (2650m) through Bakonjo farmstead:

After breakfast, the driver will transfer you to Nyakalengija from where you will start climbing up to Nyabitaba hut; passing through the banana sambas on the side of the steep slopes, past the typical Bakonjo homesteads. Proceed with trail alongside the Mubuku River, through mudslides and up and down pillars and cliffs, Cross the Mahoma River and ascent sharply through halt fern hills and pod carpus forest to Nyabitaba Hut where you would stay stay.

Day 8: Climb to John Matte hut (3350m):

From Nyabitaba start the trail that goes down through the forest to the Kurt Shafer Bridge, just below the convergence of the Mubuku and Bujuku rivers. Passing through the bamboo forest,  and strenuous expanse of glassy moss-topped rock. From the Nyamileju rock housing, Mount Stanley and Mount Speke can be viewed before reaching into the zone of the massive heather, groundsel and lobelia. Arrive at John Matte Hut after walking through the exhausting swamp. Dinner and Overnight John Matte hut.

Day 9: Hike to Bujuku Hut:

From John Matte Hut, the trail goes down to the Bujuku River. The higher Bigo Swamp gives path to Bujuku Lake, with sights of Mt Stanley to the west and Mt Baker to the South. Bujuku Hut is well situated in the follower of Mount Baker and Mount Speke, is established in a narrow valley under Steinmann pass. Dinner and overnight stay at Bujuku Hut. 

Day 10: Bujuku Hut to Kitandara Hut (4,023).

On this day, you trek through the groundsel vegetation along the 4km path, climbing up 4,372m  which is about 5-7 hours hike.  You will ascend through the sides of the Upper Bigo bog, and later on follow the hike down through the steep slopes of Lake Bujuku to the West. Climb up to the 4372m Scott-Elliot pass, and later continue through several swamps and the remarkable ground gully. You will then walk through the steep section above the gully by a metal ladder reaching a junction with two divided trails, with the right trail leading to the Elena Hut rising through a steep trail above the large boulders to Mount Stanley while the left trail heads to the Scott-Eliiot pass descending to Kitandara  hut.

The trail is then divided into two. The two trails, the left trail leads to Scott-Elliot pass descending to Kitandara Lakes while the right trail heads to the Elena Hut and on a steep trail above large boulders to Mt Stanley.

Situated at the rocky part of Mount Stanley, Elena hut is located in a cold region, although it offers beautiful views of Mount Baker and Mount Speke, which is sometimes hard to see due to fog. Dinner and an overnight at the Elena hut.

Day 11: From Elena to Margherita to Kitandara

Today, you will wake up as early as 2:00am, for breakfast, and embark on your hike to the top of Magheritah peak, which starts at 3:00am. You will hike through the Stanley plateau to Mount Stanley. Using ropes, you will hike through the sharp rocky regions, while the crampons as well as the ice axe  will be used on the glacial axe- as directed by the guide. This will take a couple of hours, after which you will reach  at the edge of margherita glacier-the most challenging part of the 7 days Rwenzori  trekking Safari. You will then proceed to the top of the peak of Mount Stanley (Magheritah Peak-at 5107m).

At this point, enjoy the impressive views of  Lake Ireen, Mount Speke and the surrounding, after then descend  Elena hut for lunch and dinner.

later continue with your trek to Kitandara, through the Scott Elliot pass (also considered as the most beautiful spot of Rwenzori) dinner and an overnight at Kitandara hut.

Note That: However, depending on your group’s strength, you may opt to spend another night at Elena Hut, and continue the next day to Kitandara then to Guy Yeoman.

Day 12: Transfer to Guy Yeoman Hut (3260m):

From Kitandara, the trail ascends steeply up the headwall, spreading out from the base of Mount Baker and continuing along the south side of the mountain to Fresh field pass. From the pass, the long muddy descent continues, passing the rock shelter at Bujangolo, the base camp for the historic expedition by the Duke of Abruzzi in 1906.

Day 13: Trek to Nyabitaba (2650m):

The path down can be slippery and muddy with little to hold on to and requires careful balancing over the vertical mud or steep rock. An overnight stop at the Nyabitaba Hut.

Day 14: Descend from Nyabitaba to Nyakalengija:

Slope from Nyabitaba to Nyakalengija, about 3 hours. At Nyabitaba starts the 40 minutes trial to see Lake Mamoha and return to the hut for descending to the Park Head Quarter. Drive to kasese town from where you will spend a night at Margherita hotel.

Day 15: Drive back to Kampala:

Enjoy breakfast and drive to Kampala with stop over Mbarara town for lunch and en route visit to the equator for photography and the experimentation. Continue to Kampala reaching in the late afternoon. Continue to your hotel or drive to Entebbe airport for your scheduled flight flight.
